College Students Beware: A Visit to Lima Tuberculosis Hospital Can Result in a Criminal Charge
With students returning to UNOH and ONU and fall approaching, many people are looking for a new spooky adventure. You may have heard that the Lima TB Hospital is a cool place to explore but be warned, it is also private property!
Every year, many people visit the abandoned Lima Tuberculosis Hospital because of rumors of its paranormal activity. Unfortunately, most of those people are arrested. Trespassing on private property is a violation of Ohio Revised Code § 2911.21. Section 2911.21 – Ohio Revised Code | Ohio Laws
There are signs at the TB Hospital indicating it is private property. The owner of the TB Hospital has cameras monitoring the entrances to the property and is aggressive about calling the police when they detect trespassers. Trespassers are typically charged with Criminal Trespass, a 4th-degree misdemeanor which is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.
Visiting the Lima Tuberculosis Hospital might seem like fun; however, the Lima Police Department and Shawnee police have previously issued statements of increased surveillance and arresting trespassers on sight with no exceptions. A couple minutes of excitement is not worth having a criminal record. Instead, try hiking one of our local public trails, visiting a haunted house nearby, or watching a scary movie. Here are some links to some fun legal activities.
